Do Sore Throat, Swollen Epiglottis, Cough, And Swallowing Difficulty Require Medical Attention?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Dec 2022
Question: My throat is sore and epiglottis is swollen. It’s very difficult to swallow. I have some coughing and am somewhat hoarse. My head hurts and I have a lot of drainage, so much that I woke up feeling like I was struggling to breathe well while lying down. No fever though. I also traveled to Central Europe last week and got a couple of bug bites. Do I need to see a doctor today or wait until Monday’? Is this likely Strep?

Brief Answer:
Possible bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

As per your symptoms the possibility of an upper respiratory tract infection is very high. This could possibly be a streptococcal infection ( bacterial infection). This require oral antibiotic therapy for a quick resolution of symptoms. It's advisable to seek early medical intervention.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to you.

Post your further questions if any.
