Brief Answer:
ambien is sleep inducer and acts on z receptor

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

The reasons behind finding one drug better than the other for same purpose -
due to our bodily composition OR due to the properties of the two medicines.

In your case it is most possibly because:

1. Ambien is more suitable in cases of insomnia when there is difficulty in initiation of sleep rather than maintenance.
Ambien being a sleep inducer & puts one to sleep in 10-15 minutes. While klonopin helps in sleep maintenance.

2. The receptor profile of the two drugs is quite different. While Ambien acts on z- receptors , klonopin has very different receptor profile. So, this too can be the reason.

3. Ambien is short acting while clonopin is long acting drug.
many times patients become tolerant to long acting drugs and therefore the effect or relaxation decreases. This does not happen with Ambien.

Hope this helps you.
