Question : Hello,
I am a 45 year old woman with hypothyroidism and hypertension which is mild most of the time but gets fairly high during stressful situations. My question is what is the drug interaction between the armour thyroid 75 mg/day, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg/day,
and amlodipine besylate 2.5 mg/day. Should all these be ok to be taken together? also the doctor wrote me a prescription for sertraline which I did not fill yet. How would that interact with the previous medications? I am a social alcohol drinker - how would alcohol interact with these medications?
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can all be taken.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
These all drugs have insignificant interaction amongst them.
They all can be taken together.
As far as Sertaline is considered it is best avoided in people suffering from heart issues or high blood pressure.
However we frequently prescribed Sertaline along with these medicines if we find that that is seriously required.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

Brief Answer:
Avoid Sertaline
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Sertaline should be avoided with alcohol, as can cause excessive sedation and drowsiness.
Other medicines don't have any significant interaction with alcohol, but hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and alcohol also acts as diuretic, so can cause excessive urination and electrolyte imbalances.
I hope it helps you.
Take Care.
