Question : Can the use of bactrim for HIV cause a false positive for a drug benzodiazepines? A dipstick test indicated faint indication. But urine when ran completely show negative. Yet the doctor said he was not a lab tech and could not verify this question. Should I contact the lab. This is for my son, who is a 40 year old male.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Bactrim should not result in a false positive for benzodiazepines. This was likely lab error. I would call the lab and have the sample re-tested.
