Does Benadryl Cause Transitory Global Amnesia?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Question: I have been taking Benadryl for 30 years a pill two hours before bedtime. I for two nights stopped and ended up in hospital with transitory global amnesia. Could it be from the Benadryl??? I'm so scared it will happen again

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be caused by Benadryl.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Yes benadryl addiction and even sudden withdrawl can cause transient amnesia.
I would advise you see a Psychiatrist to help you come out of this addiction.
I would also advise you to get a MRI brain done to rule out any other cause of such episode that can be a Transient Ischemia Attack (TIA).
If MRI is normal then it is most probably because of Benadryl. Stop using it. If you have difficulties after stopping it you should see a Psychiatrist who would prescribe you anti anxiety drugs like Etizolam for a short course.
I hope it helps.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

I was hospitalized and they gave me Ativan I guess to get me through the whole thing and I still feel very weird from it. Dizzy fuzzy. I have been on celesta 10 milligrams foor 5 years. How can I know this will not happen again? They did all those tests in hospital all negative. Why does Benadryl do this?

Brief Answer:
Ativan is used in withdrwal

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Ativan is used for with drawl symptoms. That was given for you in acute state. Now, if you get any problems you would require Etizolam only.
Benadryl has constituents that can cause this problem. Moreover, it has high addictive potential.
If you stop Benadryl, you might get a few episodes again but after a few weeks you will be fine.
If you have any further query please ask me.

Brief Answer:
No, Crrestor won't cause withdrawl symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
No Crestor won't cause withdrawl symptoms. But yes, if you were taking it, it indicated you had dyslipidemia, so you should get a workup for Stroke (TIA) as discussed earlier.

Good Luck.
