Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: my question is about botox and tinnitus, such as what is the state of the research and what kind of success rates people are experiencing with botox particularly and overall. I was wondering what the probabilities are that I can be helped or the percent of people that have to live with it permanently?

Brief Answer:
Succes rate yet to be substantiated

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Tinitus is produced due to unnecessary firing of nerve, caused due on any irritation of the nerve. In Botox a botulin toxin is injected into the nerve site to dampen its sensitivity to irritation, and hence the tinnitus is prevented. However, one needs to understand that it just reduces the sensitivity of nerve, therefore in most cases there is no 100% cure of tinnitus, but marked reduction in intensity of the sound.
The succes rate regarding Botox for tinnitus is yet to be substantiated, as its recent technique.
The residual tinnitus can be dealt with life style modification like,
avoiding loud noise exposure, avoiding stimulants like coffee, nicotine, etc.

hope to have helped you with query.
thanks
