Does Botox Injection Help To Treat Writers Cramp?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Mar 2015
Question: hello im charitha from XXXXXXX im suffering from writers cramp from past two years and right now i am taking botox injections from DR.ROOPAM at NIMS, Panjagutta. I just want to clarify if this botox injection helps in permanent cure? As of now I have taken two injections and I can see some improvement. Im a left hander by birth. Is there any chance that this problem can also be seen in right hand? If not, then I will start practising with my right hand. Can yoga help in curing this problem? And can you suggest me any other medications that can help me cure this problem? Im going to write my CA exams in this may and I am afraid that I am gonna spoil my exams because of my writers cramp. Pls suggest me what to do. Will yoga help in curing and if yes, what asanas should i do?

Brief Answer:
Botox injections are the best treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ms Charitha,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms, diagnosis and current treatment.

For writer's cramp, the best treatment is BOTOX injections. The effect of botox is not permanent and it needs to be repeated every 3-6 months. So, we can say that writer's cramp can be controlled, but it can not be cured.

Dr Rupam Borgohain at NIMS is experienced in botox injections and you can continue your treatment under his care.

Other medications such as pacitane and revocon help in writer's cramp, however, they are inferior to botox injections. Moreover, these medicines have side effects such as dryness of mouth and sleepiness.

If you start writing with right hand, there is a chance that writer's cramp can affect that side too.

Yoga is not particularly useful in the treatment of writer's cramp.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,
