Does Cefuroxime Cause Incontinence And A Burning Sensation While Urinating?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Sep 2017
Question: I have had a UTI all summer. I have taken one antibiotic after another. As soon as I am done the UtI comes back. Today I went to Uroligist Dr. Ricuti in Youngstown. He ordered Cefuroxime . I took One and within an hour I was burning and couldn't hold my urine. Is that normal or a reaction to medicine? Never had this reaction from other antibiotics. I am 73 and I have had several surgeries in the last 4years. Back surgeries pelvic cancer, and hip replacement on my right. There is lots of numbness on this side. Maybe my bladder has been affected.

Brief Answer:
You have Chronic UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

The chronic UTI that you have since years is due to repeated characterizations during surgeries and second most common factor at this age is Urethral Stenosis (Narrowing of Urethra)that develops in elderly females due to age related atrophy of genital organs .This results in incomplete emptying of bladder during urination causing significant amount of urine to remain in bladder which is a source of repeated infection (UTI).

I shall be happy if you can post me more details to help me in making precise comments
1) Was antibiotics that were being prescribed to you were prescribed after doing culture and sensitivity tests of urine ?

You need to get Endoscopic Examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) and urethral calibration done to dilate the urethral passage .This will help to empty the bladder completely and there by prevent infection

Discuss this with your Urologist when you visit him in few days .

In the mean while get urine culture done and start taking appropriate antibiotic as per culture report .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
