Does Cetirizine Intake During Pregnancy Cause Any Complication In The Fetus?
Question: my wife is pregnant. last month. she have itching in legs and hand. doctor prescribed cetirizine 10 mg tablet per night is it safe to take? is there any impact on child growth?

Itching in pregnancy is quite often seen in many individuals. If the itching is severe Cetrizine is usually prescribed . It is safe if taken in 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Like any other drug, it is better avoided in 1st rimester of pregnancy(1st 3 months of pregnancy). No ill effects have been noted in foetus regarding the drug.
I would also suggest the following for itching
1. Daily body massage with mixture of coconut and almond oil
2. Omega 3 fatty acid supplements especially if she is in 3rd trimester.
