Does Clarithromycin Interact With Eliquis, Lipitor And Digoxin?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Jul 2017
Question: Can I take clarithromycin if I take eliquis, Lipitor, and digoxin? And, if not, what antibiotic can I take? (I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs.)
My PCP gave me clarithromycin - but my pharmacist is concerned about interaction. (I have a pacemaker-defibrillator since having a stroke last year, and I have a serious lung disease - so I can't afford to get a bad infection.) What do I do?
(I'm suppose to go away for a weekend retreat in a week - but now I'm afraid to go on the trip.)

According to the pharmacist, the combination of clarithromycin with my prescriptions for digoxin & Lipitor can build up these drugs in my system and become toxic. So it made me frightened. Do I need to stop either of these drugs while on clarithromycin -- which is for 10 days?

Do I need to stop taking Lipitor and/or Digoxin while I'm on clarithromycin?

Also, is the dosage of clarithromycin based on a person's weight? If so, I weigh only about 98 pounds -- I'm given 500 mg. 2x a day of clarithromycin. Is this too much for me?

And usually Clarithomycin is given for 5 days only.
So don't know why your doctor prescribed for 10 days.
And also dose is high.
