                                            Question : My blood pressure this morning was an average of 127/90 this morning, which is not normal. Should I go to the ER? I took dayquil this a.m. Could this raise BP?

Dayquil contains phenylephrine (treats nasal congestion) as one of its active ingredient, an alpha 1 adrenergic agonist which can increase your blood pressure especially diastolic pressure. But this is usually transient and the blood pressure returns to normal when the drug concentration decreases in the system because of its metabolism and elimination. Appropriate dosing and avoiding frequent use (advisable to use twice a day) should be enough to prevent the increase in BP.
