Posted on Wed, 2 Sep 2015
Question: I have Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis, and take Potassium Chloride as well as Inspra (a potassium sparing diuretic) for the condition. Hormones adversely affect my potassium levels and my doctor is thinking of using Depo Provera to control my blood flow.
Could Depo Provera influence my potassium levels?

Brief Answer:
It does not affect potassium levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Depo provera is a progesterone preparation that will help in controlling the excessive blood flow during the periods. You can take oral contraceptive pills also to control the bleeding. This will not have any effect on your blood potassium levels. You can start using it as your doctor has advised.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
