default
Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: I just got by CBC back and everything was in normal range except for MCV which was 102.9. I have been taking gabapentin for about 6 months due to back issues. Could this have caused it? How do I lower my MCV? How serious is this?

Brief Answer:
Vitamin b12 or folic acid deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have high mcv. It indicates the size of rbc. Common causes of high mcv are vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, liver disease, hypothyroidism etc.

You should check your vitamin B12 level, SGPT and TSH to find the exact cause.

Then you should take treatment accordingly.
If you have low vitamin B12 level then injectable vitamin B12 supplements can be taken.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
