default
Posted on Mon, 18 Sep 2017
Question: Does Gabepentin help with "shakiness" while withdrawing from alcohol? I know it's for preventing seizures, but I'm experiencing feeling shaky. Is that the same as seizures? Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Gabapentin is effective in treating withdrawal symptoms including shakiness, which are not seizures but rather a symptom of withdrawal. Gabapentin has the added benefit of also working to prevent seizures, which are a risk of alcohol withdrawal. It targets both things and is an effective medication.

I would stick with over the counter Maalox to help with this. It will pass with time.
