Brief Answer:
Change your medications under supervision. This will work.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

1. Both neurontin and gralise are different trade names for Gabapentin, a drug that is used to control seizures.

2. Gralise will have the same effects as neurontin. This is a fact.

3. Gralise can indeed cause a shortness of breath in some individuals. You mention COPD.

4. The best solution is to get assessed and try a different drug. If you cannot tolerate depakote or dilantin and you are certainly facing issues with neurontin and probably gralise (in the near future). I would suggest moving on. There are scores of agents available for seizures such as Topiramate, Leveriteracetam, Carbamazepine, Oxcarbazepine, Sodium Valproate, Zonisamide, Lacosamide and more.

5. This means that you have options. You have freedom and need not choose between two narrow options, Gralise or neurontin, both of which may be unfavorable to you. Or may exacerbate (emotionally) shortness of breath.

6. Thus, kindly see a neurologist and switch to a better drug. The options I gave you indeed have less side effects and do not interfere with COPD breathlessness.

Feel free to write back for further doubts and resolution of health issues.

Regards,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
