Question: I have BPH and ED....do you recommend Hytrin or Cardura to treat both conditions with one medication?

Brief Answer:
These drugs cannot act on ED!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this Ed and BPH that you have. The only medications that can act on both are cialis and viagra. Hytrin and Cardura only act for BPH and have no effect on ED. If you must use one medication to address both, then I recommend viagra or cialis. If for some reasons you cannot tolerate any of these medications, then you may want two separate prescriptions for these conditions.

In all, Hytrin or Cardura would only address BPH and not both. Try Cialis if you cannot go with viagra. Beside, what is the problem you have using viagra? We may have suggestions to address them.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I am so sorry Dr. I stated something incorrectly. I do have ED and BPH, but I also have high blood pressure.
What I meant was which would be better in treating my high blood pressure and BPH........Hytrin or Cadura?

I currently use viagra prior to sex that works well for the ED.

Brief Answer:
Cardura or Hytrin works good!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Both medications are good. They are from the same class and share everything in common from mechanism of action to possible side effects and drug interactions. Any one you chose would be fine. If I must choose for you, I will go with cardura.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information from me if need be.

Thank you Dr.......I had been on Cialis once per day, everyday for BPH and ED and Benicar for the high blood pressure. For some reason I felt lightheaded and had a little dizziness.

So, my idea was to switch to cardura to handle the blood pressure and the BPH, and just use viagra as needed for the ED.

What do you think?

Brief Answer:
For now, I will say don’t change your medications!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this precision.

Your side effects are minor and don’t really point to a life threatening side effect that would require that you change medications. Unless these side effects are very frequent and bothersome, I will say you should not change your drugs.

For now, continue with the same medications and only consider a change is something very serious comes up.

I hope to hear from you on what you think about this suggestion or whether there is a strong reason that i may not be aware of to consider changing these medications.

Until then, I wish you well.

OK Dr. I will follow your advice and not change meds at this time. Another reason I was considering changing was that the Cialis which I had been taken for over 6 months, seems not to be as effective anymore in treating the BPH. Some nights, I still have to get ups 3 to 5 times to urinate. I have been on 5mg once a day, and I take it before bed.
I thought that maybe the cardura would be more effective treating the BPH, and that is why I considered changing, but you don't feel that way?

Brief Answer:
I will not change it at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This drug works most of the times but for a few nights. I always don’t want to exhaust all my options because writing off a drug means we would rarely return to it. Before we know, we may be short of options. My suggestion would be that we go on and only change this drug if you think it really has no added value. If it works most of the times but for a few, do not change it. If it doesn’t world most of the times, then changing it would be considered.

Let me know what your take is on this. I wish you well.
