Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: Thank you for your information. If I could figure out why is hands and arms shake so hard he has trouble getting his food in his mouth. Will just have to wait and see what happens but he will not budge for anything. At least I know it not a reaction to the Keppra. What is lithium orotate that I have seen connected to brain problems? Have a good day. I appreciate your help.

Brief Answer:
Lithium can produce shaking

Detailed Answer:
Hello again! I am sorry your husband is still not feeling well.

Shaking of the limbs can have many different causes. May be due to benign essential tremor, due to neurological conditions like Parkinson's, some types of stroke etc, hormonal imbalance like increased thyroid function, electrolyte abnormalities etc.

So in order to at least try to identify the cause I am afraid he has to be seen in order to have a neurological exam for other neurological signs and to run some imaging or blood tests for those conditions.

Medication may at times produce such symptoms as well. I am not sure why you mention lithium orotate, since you do not mention him taking it. It is considered as a supplement, not approved by Food and Drug Administration. If he has been taking it then yes it can produce those symptoms, usually when in high dosage.

Let me know if I can further assist you.

Thank you.

He isn't taking lithium. If it was a supplement that would help him it would be worth a try. Keppra is the only prescription is his taking. I am giving other supplements like Vitamin B 12, whey protein powder, essential greens.
I cruise around the web looking for information that is related to some of his symptoms and checking out information they talk about. Last night he is sure someone outside tried to kill him. He has developed a whistle that is shrill and hurts my ears. I had to listen to that noise as well as a lot of other yelling and strange noises that remind me of pigs arguing. They make me think I should call the local vet.

He complains that he can't see, has trouble walking and can only eat soft food. His problems are easy to fix if he would go to the eye doctor for a prescription for glasses. Go to the chiropractor for an adjustment of his hip. There isn't much the dentist could do but finish pulling his real teeth - not over 6 are left. He 2 partial plates left that don't stay in place so he can chew evenly.

I am sure he has developed another mean personality that is ruling his life most of the time. When the nice guy has a chance to appear he can be fun like the old days. His personality has change in a wink of the eye. It seems like a snap of a finger signals his brain to change. Life is so much fun.

We went to a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. A friend that has known him for years didn't recognize him or acknowledge him. His hair was uncombed, tried to eat with his teeth falling out, and couldn't see what items of food were on his plate. We are talking about a guy who always made sure his hair was combed before he went anywhere. His philosophy is that he is going to be dead soon so he doesn't have to change. In the meantime, I just roll with it and try to keep him fed.

He keeps telling me he doesn't need to go to the Dr. because he is OK. So I can only live with it.

Have a good day. You really have helped me answers to some questions. You have given me some ideas about side effects of various drugs and supplements that could help.

Thanks again.

He has so many problems that he can't even keep up with them.

Detailed Answer:
It is really sad to read your description, it is obvious how much you love him and how much it must hurt to see him so changed. The fact that he could feel much better if he only accepted help makes it even more frustrating. Apart from the glasses and the teeth issue I believe a psychiatric interview would help in pinpointing the issue and initiate more appropriate treatment, it is not a question of supplements (apart from vitamin B12 which is worth a try).
I am sorry I couldn't help more.

Thank you for your insight and things I can attempt to do to get him on the right track.

The big hurdle is how to get him anyplace to see for getting help. If you could send a magic carpet that I could send on to see the doctors he needs to would be most helpful.

When he says NO no one can take him anywhere or can't do anything against his will. In the meantime, I keep hoping that little thing will require medical attention so I have to call for ambulance assistance that he can't say "no" to.

So in the meantime I will continue to feed and argue with him.

You have been so helpful as it is. Just gives me more thoughts to keep in mind so if the opportunity arises I can move on them.

Thank you so very much.
