Brief Answer:
It is never too late.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
The use of meth is never recommended during pregnancy.
So she should stop taking the drug as early as possible.
Fact about the drug-
- These drugs should not be used during pregnancy.
- It will harm her baby in two ways-
1) Cause placental insufficiency and placental abruption( excessive bleeding harmful to her and baby)
2) Fetal birth defect( neurological brain injury) or preterm birth or low birth weight baby
- It hardly matters will drug detected in baby blood after birth or not( it will already harm her baby)
- Neurological brain injury only detected after child birth and child is having some behavioural issue also.
So please stop the drug as early as possible and get her gynecologist consultation done.
Just tell the doctor about using drug then she may be able to detect and prepare her for complications arises during pregnancy due to the use of drug.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa

we do understand the side effects and have talked to her ob-gyn about it but no one will tell her if the drug will still be in the babys system. she lost her first child 5 years ago and started using then. now shes been blessed again her first child would be 14yrs old she just wants to know how long it stays in the babys system so she can mentally prepare herself wether its good or bad news for her. need to know how long meth stays in babies system while in the womb because there immune systems are so small. please doctor did she ruin her chances of raising her baby or will it turn out positive and she loss her kid. its very important to her to just know

Brief Answer:
Exposure to meth is dangerous to baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Nice to see you again.
I feel sorry to listen from you.
For her information meth is a short acting drug and it's half life in adult is 6-10 hrs and is excreted by urine.
It can be there from 48 hrs. to maximum few weeks.
But traces of it may remain in meconium and detected in stool test after birth also.
It will remain in hair upto 90 days.
But at this stage it is not very important that drug still there in foetal system or not.
The important fact is that her baby is already exposed to drug in first trimester.
Hope this information is helpful to her in taking her decision.
Feel free to discuss more, I feel happy to help her.
If you want to close the discussion please before closing accept my answer and write a review.
Thanks
Wish her a good luck and very best wishes for her future.
Regards
Dr. Richa
