Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I read your query and can understand your concern regarding Mirtazapine.
First of all, let me say that I was glad to note that you have done really well in life despite being pegged down by polio. That just goes on to show your determination and character. And I am very sure that you would be fighting well against depression too, more so since you are a psychologist yourself.
Coming to your query regarding Mirtazapine, a direct answer will be no. Mirtazapine is not reported to cause Peyronie's disease. Peyronie's disease is a condition which is quite common in old age and in most cases, the cause remains undetermined. It may have a genetic component, however many patients with Peyronie's disease don't have any family history.
So, I would suggest that you stop worrying about it being due to Mirtazapine, more so if Mirtazapine is helping you overcome with your symptoms of depression. It is one of the anti-depressants that has minimum sexual side effects. You should seek a urology consultation for Peyronie's and get it treated accordingly.
Hope that answers your query. In case of any more queries, please feel free to ask.
Best wishes,
Dr, Sunil Gupta
