Brief Answer:
The side effect is most likely related to the new pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and I hope I can help you today.

Even though generic medications have the same active ingredients as the branded pill, and different generics can be substituted for each other, the ingredients that give the pill its color and shape affect how your body digests the pill. So your cycle may change slightly on a different brand of pill even if the active ingredients are the same.

So you probably are having what is called breakthrough bleeding, which is not harmful and can be a side effect of the pill. This does not mean the pill doesn't work to prevent pregnancy, it just may not control your menstrual cycle as the old brand.

There is really nothing to worry about if you spot before your period is due... as your body gets used to this new pill it most likely will go away after a few more months.

I hope I was able to answer your question today and this information was helpful. If you need anything further, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown

Thank you so much for responding! Was I safe switching birth control the first week of the Myzilra?

Brief Answer:
Yes it's fine- and sorry it took so long for me to get back to you

Detailed Answer:
Yes you can switch in the middle- you just may spot after a day or two with the transition. It still will be effective as birth control as long as you dont miss any pills.

I hope this solved your issue and let me know if you need anything else.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
