No, it does not
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Although both Remeron (Mirtazepine) and benzodiazepines are helpful for sleep problems there is no resemblance at the receptor level between these two medications.
The benzodiazepines act on the gaba receptors while the Mirtazapine increases the serotonergic and noradrenergic transmission.
In addition, mirtazapine also blocks histamine receptors which are often responsible for sedation as a side effect. Sometimes this effect on histaminergic receptors is used for individuals with a sleep problem.
I also like to inform you that action on gaba results intolerance after a certain period of time but no such effect observed for receptors acted upon by Remeron.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
