Question : My husband takes simvistatin. Does this drug cause you to smell like an old man. He has this odor that is associated with old people. Is it possible that it is this drug or his lisinopril??

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that there exists no medical evidence that simvastatin or lisinopril may be a reason for any special smelling.

So, coming to this point, it is necessary to look for other alternative explanation of such a smell.

Some lab tests are advisable for excluding any possible metabolic disorder:

- complete blood count,
- fasting blood glucose,
- BUN & creatinine,
- AST & ALT,
- blood electrolytes level

In addition, if any suspicions is raised, it is recommended consulting a dermatologist for a careful investigation of any potential skin infection, as a possible reason of unpleasant smell.
