Question : Hi doctor. I am currently undergoing treatment in my feet for infection/ circulation problems. I have had two toes amputated recently. My foot is swelling and red and I wanted to take sulfamethox/t. However I also have a heart condition. Am taking digoxin and losartan. Can I take the antibiotic while on those heart medications or are there contraindications?

Sulfamethoxazole has adverse interactions with both digoxin and losartan due to its effect on the liver metabolic pathways and renal clearance.
Better to avoid. Levofloxacin does not have this effect and may be a better option.
