Does Tamsulosin Reduce Urine Volume?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Oct 2016
Question: For my OAB my Urologist prescribed Tamsulosin 0.4mg once a day. Early this week he recommended two pills a day. Currently I have difficulty urinating. I understand it reduces the number of urinations at night.
Does it reduce the flow?
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Maximum recomonded dose of Tomsulosin is 0.4mg.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query ,Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have obstructive voiding symptoms due to benign enlargement of prostate .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem
1) Have you recently done ultrasound Scanning of abdomen to find out size of the prostate and volume of post void residual urine and Uroflometry.?

Tomsulosin helps to improve urine flow by relaxing smooth muscle fibers in prostate and bladder neck. The maximum recomonded dose of Tomsulosin is 0.4 mg once daily and doubling the dose does not help to improve urine flow ..

You need to consult qualified Urologist for assessment and fresh evaluation and decide regarding modality of treatment .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
