Does Topiramate Cause Numbness In Tongue And Anxiety?
Question: Hi I was just prescribed a mood stabilizer call toprimate. The drug made me anxious, very anxious so I discontinued it. I was prescribed the lowest dose. Coincidentally the night I visited an old friend who I believe in hindsight has a severe personality disorder (I spent the night in her bedroom), her her son got crazy violent and I had to call the police and get my husband to pick me up. The paper cups in her bedroom smelled very funny like perfume and I got sick right after. I accidently kept drinking from he cups and as I did I felt crazier and crazier. . I took an air freshner I found in her bedroom that smelled just like the stuff on the cups. Could it be possible that she poisoned her son and myself? I know there are bath salts that can induce the very same symptoms. How can I tell the difference between which drug produced the symptoms. My tongue was very very numb which is a symptom of bath salts but I can find no connection to the anti-seizure meds and toungue numbness so I am very concerned.

Any substance going inside your body might have been washed out in urine in next 24 hours. But still it is possible to get the cup that you brought along to be examined by a forensic lab.
Secondly looking at the other possibility, topiramate can cause numbness in tongue and anxiousness as a side-effect in certain rare cases. Its very unpredictable but cannot be negated.
What I would suggest is you should send the cup for forensic examination and cosider some other mood stabilizer for your illness. Divalproex sodium or lithium are good options for mood stabilizers.
