Does UTI Lead To Permanent Orchitis?

Question: Hi, I had an UTI infection last November leading to orchitris. Both of my testicules were affected. I got treatment and checks about my prostate and everything seemed fine. however my sperm became first very liquid and then the volume very low. when I touch my scrotum I can feel a kind of additional volume (it doesn't seem to be on the testis but rather separated and not hard) below my testis. I know I need to see a doctor but does it sound like I won't be able to have children anymore? Everything is normal apart from the fact that I don't have or just a little bit of sperm of sperm coming out.

Hi,

I understand your concerns.

UTI does not lead to permanent orchitis and it resolves soon.

What you are feeling in scrotum is likely to be epidydimis which is normal part of testis.

Semen volume has got nothing to do with inability to conceive. Just One ml of semen is good enough for pregnancy.

I don't see any reason to worry about future fertility.

You should be able to have children.

You don't need any medicines now.

Hi,

So could it be that epidymys is infected or anything like that? As I said I nearly don't have any semen or extremely low which was all fine before my UTI. Without any semen it is hard to get children...

Considering that I had much more semen before my infection and that epidymys below my testis feels bigger can't it be a connexion between both and maybe an obstruction to let it out? I ve read a lot about it on Internet...

Hi,

I don't think this is infection of epidydimis.

This is just temporary UTI.

if you have doubts about your semen quality, please get semen analysis done in a reputed laboratory to identify if sperm count is low. This is more important parameter for pregnancy than semen volume alone.

I also want to add that my UTI a few orchitis was in December and bacteries were cleared (I had a test) after I took medication. It's after it was cleared that epdidymis felt a bit bigger below my testis and my semen volume became not just lower but nearly unexistant. Can you give me aneither explanation of what that could come from as there is clearly a change in the way my body is reacting. Thanks.

There is no apparent reason for decreased semen quantity other than bit of dehydration.

Drink more water and see if your semen volume improves.

You dont need any medicines as of now. Please get your semen analysis done and send me the report so that I can advice you further.

I am drinking 1.5 liters of water everyday since I had the infection as recommended by my GP. I can't do an analysis in 2 days especially considering that I can't get a lot (i nearly have no sperm).

I have a bigger than usual epididymis (feels swollen) and nearly no sperm (how can i do a test). It looks like the problem is about carrying the sperm (as nothing or nearly nothing comes out). When I look at the definition of what an epididymitis is, it looks like it could be the problem. Don't you think that i could be an infection there considering I feel a swollen epididymis?

It could be possible epidydimitis. But needs to be examined by your doctor to confirm.

I suggest you drink atleast 3. litres of water a day and see if you get semen for giving to examination by semen analysis test
