default
Posted on Sat, 14 May 2016
Question: Hi, if someone sustained a punch to their jaw, so severe it caused them to step back in pain and was still sore seven hours later. Would you expect to see any redness or bruising at any stage?

Brief Answer:
It may or may not appear.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.

Bruising is the result of the bleeding under the skin due to rupture of the blood vessels, the redness can come due to reaction to trauma.

If the force of punch is sufficient enough, some reaction is possible.
But as you say if the person has stepped back it is possible that the force is also reduced if the punch and the person moves in tandem. (this happens if the punch is not sudden).
Sometimes the bruising and redness can occur the next day.
Secondly, the effect also depends whether the punching was a bare hand or with glove or so.

I hope this answers your query.
I was wondering, why this question.

Please feel free to ask for further relevant query if yo feel that there is a gap of communication.

I was assaulted by a police officer in my own home. My housemate was concerned about my welfare and called police for a welfare check. I was punched in the face, resulting in a lot of blood loss and 4 stitches. This was 6 months ago and I am still undergoing treatment for PTSD. I was advised to report the incident which I did. Three months after I reported the incident, I was charged with assaulting the police officer, which is a total lie. He claimed I punched his left arm, his partner claimed it was his right arm I punched. He claimed I punched him in the jaw, so hard it caused him to step back and it was still sore seven hours later. Ambulance were called to assist me and take me to hospital for xrays. The ambulance did not look at him at his face at all, as he had not complained about it. I have NEVER hit anyone and NEVER been hit in my life. I am 5 foot 2, 51 years old and he was well over 6 foot and probably early 30's. Now I am facing a court case based on his lies, backed up by his partner.

Brief Answer:
Points as noted .

Detailed Answer:
Oh, so sorry to know.
Read your feedback.
Since you have not punched, hence there would not be any XXXXXXX or symptom or any medical record to prove.
This can help you the most in court.
Secondly, there is disparity of the statement of the police and his partner.
He did not complain when the ambulance came in.
Since he is taller than you, the force of your punch (which you did not) would be from below upwards. This is an added point in cross-examination.

I hope these points will help you, if you have not hit him.
Wish you all the best.
