Hi,

Thanks for your query at HCM!

I went through your query and understand your concern.

As you told you hae undergone a PCR test for HIV after 6 weeks post exposure you need not worry for any alcohol interfence with the sensitivity or accuracy of test. The commercially available RNA/DNA detection tests like PCR especially for HIV have a sensitivity of 40–80 copies of HIV RNA per milliliter of plasma.Nucleic-acid-based tests amplify and detect one or more of several target sequences located in specific HIV genes, such as HIV-I GAG, HIV-II GAG, HIV-env, or the HIV-pol It has been found that PCR assays can detect as few as one copy per 10,000–100,000 cells. Thus, these tests are extremely sensitive. It is 99.9% sensitive even on 10-12 days post exposure so in your case it is negative. But even though with such a high sensitivity you can go for HIV antibodies test fourth generation after 3 months.

Hope I have answered your question. If you would like some more information I will be happy to provide. You can take a follow-up query. It would be kind if you hit a thanks if found helpful. You can also write a review for me. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health
