Question: If I have a beer with a big dinner can I take a xanax (1mg) a little later in the night (1 hour after finishing my beer)? I'm 23, 6'1" and about 200 lbs.

Hi and thanks so much for this query.

Alcohol and alprazolam both quieten the nervous system. Taking both together can actually worsen the effects of xanax and make you feel very drowsy, lack concentration and be dizzy. It can also impair judgment making driving and manipulating machines very risky. My advise is to avoid alcohol in all its forms while on this drug. If you must, then the quantity of alcohol must be kept at basic minimum.
