Does Anxiety Medication Have An Effect On The Sexual Performance?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Dec 2014
Question: Hi , i am a young female. 23

I have some issues in the sexual department
The anxiety meds that i am currently tapering off of do disturb my libido & sexual performance sometimes , i take diazepam.

Anyways, my issue is i am not able to ejaculate as often as i was when i was first sexually active . I never had this issue until i was on those meds.
Why can't i ejaculate? Is it psychological or physical or is it both? I figure reaching that orgasm may be psychological.

Brief Answer:
Psychological or stress factor. Follow advices.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I understand your concern.

At first, you should know that only 35-50% women reach orgasm during sexual intercourse and around 10% of them are able to ejaculate properly.

It is defined as expulsion of fluid by the paraurethral ducts from female urethra during or before an orgasm. It is seen in FEW percentage only.

If you were ejaculating after reaching orgasm, then it is a temporary problem. Some underlying causes could be hormonal imbalance, mental stress or anxiety, urinary or vaginal infection, dryness or improper lubrication, psychological factor, emotional upset, taking psychiatric medication etc.

I suggest you to undergo one urine routine and culture test along with vaginal swab test to rule out any kind of infection. Do regular meditation or yoga to reduce mental stress/ anxiety and stop taking current medicine for few weeks.

Maintain genital hygiene properly (AVOID chemical products) and use water based lubricant each time prior to intimation. Create a romantic environment through well decoration, lighting, perfume, flowers etc. Change sex position whenever needed. Relax completely on bed and during intercourse until you achieve orgasm. These will definitely help to enhance libido and increase sexual performance.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and healthy sexual life.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
