Posted on Sat, 8 Oct 2016
Question: I have had a hip replacement and am using a cane. Now I am having shoulder pain on the side that I use the cane. There is one tender point on the front of the shoulder mid-way between the armpit and the top of the shoulder. I would describe the pain as mild to moderate. I have a chiropractor appt. on Monday Is this an appropriate place to start for treatment?

Brief Answer:
Heat relaxes muscles. Cold reduces inflammation. Both have their role.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Heat helps in relaxing the muscles while cold helps in reducing inflammation. Hot compress alternating with cold compress would work best.

It is hard to comment on whether the arrangement with the cane is appropriate for you. You need to be carefully examined and the degree of impairment needs to be correlated. It is only after that it can be commented upon the appropriateness. The findings will also guide if a chiropractor would be enough.

Let me know if I could help further.
