Brief Answer:
seems unlikely due to asbestos

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Retina is the last layer of eye and is almost at the end of the eye.
Though asbestos exposure to eyes is known to cause problems to eyes they are mostly limited to surface of the eye.
By that i mean the conjunctiva or sclera gets irritated as its a mineral and can get itchy, red and watering of eyes can be experienced.
But i have not heard or seen of any case where asbestos particles penetrate cornea and all eye layers to reach retina and cause tear in retina.
It is very unlikely.
As you have mentioned your age it could be the cause of the tear due to weakness in the membrane of retina and could have cause spontaneous tear.
Asbestos as the reason for the same i feel is not possible.
I hope i have answered your query well.
If you have any more query kindly write back to me will be happy to answer them.
Thank you
