Does Bleeding Occur After Taking A Course Of Meprate?

Question: Hello doctor, My fiance didnt have her periods for 2 months. We did a Beta HCG which was <2.00. She took meprate for 5 days(1-0-1) course. 6th day she had her periods. After 6-7 days she started seeing bleeding. What could be the reason

Sir, your wife did not have her period for 2 months which is called amenorrhea. But amenorrhea is categorised into two types depending on the causes, there is primary and secondary amenorrhea. Either way, the aim for treatment is to help the woman have her period or help induce it.

Most common treatment advised for women experiencing secondary amenorrhea is tablet meprate. Once this tablet is taken for a duration of 5-10 days (duration decided by the doctor) and discontinue, the woman experiences a withdrawal bleed. This withdrawal bleed mimics the period and thus helps in trying to regularise the woman's menstrual cycle. So please do not worry, as this is completely normal and is in fact advised in your wife's case.

Thank you Dr. Shoaib for the response. However I have a doubt here.

My fiance took meprate for 5 days. The 6th day, the periods happened.
The periods went on for a week and stopped which is normal.

The bleeding has started again only after the periods. Do you categorize this as well as withdrawal bleeding.

Please make note of this fact that the bleeding started after the periods happened

Medications like meprate help with controlling hormonal imbalances and fluctuations, which in turn can result in some side effects when the hormone levels go higher or lower.

One such common side effect of meprate is irregular bleeding between cycles and this is still not a cause for concern right now sir. So there is nothing to worry about, but make sure your report this to your wife's prescribing doctor. In a way it is good, as your wife did notbhave her periods for 2 months. This could just be the medications trying to help get her periods more often.
