Does Coccydinia Cause Severe Leg Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 May 2013
Question: in relation to the previous q's etc. Does the coccydinia by the end of the day make the pain in legs worse and make them feel as though are as heavy as lead? Very uncomfortable! When should I expect the anti inflammatory to start working?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Coccydynia is pain related to the coccyx which is more commonly known as the tail bone.

It is mainly associated with pain on sitting but can be associated with a consellation of other symptoms such as pain in the back, feet and legs. There can also be discomfort on bowel movement.

Anti inflammatory medications have different onset of actions depending on the drug used but in general the onset of action is within 2 hrs with maximum effect within a few hrs of use.
If you are not getting an relieve with the medication you are currently using you may need either an increased dose or a stronger anti inflammatory.

In addition the following may help: using a soft cushion to sit on
decreasing the amount of time in the sitting position
Use of a stool softener
Warm sitz baths are also thought to help
Accupuncture helps some individuals

If you still experience significant pain after 2 mths then steroid injections may be recommended.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
