Posted on Sat, 26 Mar 2016
Question: I just had my latest blood test. My creatinine was 1.30 and my GFR was 55. My last creatinine was 1.34 and my GFR was 50. My BUN was 12. I noticed since I have increased my weight lifting my creatinine has been around 1.3. Would supplements like Nettle Leaf or Salvia help?

Brief Answer:
Nettle leaf tea

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I understand that you have a steady creatinine. Serum creatinine of 1.3 mg/dl is normal for your age and you need not worry about it. There is always a steady decline in GFR after the age of 40. There are no proven reports indicating Nettle leaf or saliva will help.
Here are some of the proven ways to retard the progression of kidney disease

1. Losing weight. The ideal BMI should be below 22 kg/meter square
2. Control of hypertension below 140/90 mmhg
3. Use ACE/ARB medications. I usually use Tab Envas 2.5 mg once a day and titrate it upwards to the best tolerated dose
4. Avoid nephrotoxic medications like painkillers and few antibiotics
5. Restriction of salt below 3 g/day

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
