Brief Answer:
Is he taking alcohol?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your father is taking anti depressant, muscle relaxant and thiamine.
These drugs themselves can not cause edema.
They are usually given in alcoholic patients. And alcoholic patients tend to develop edema due to low hemoglobin and proteins.
So please let me know
1. Is he taking alcohol?
2. Have you checked for hemoglobin and protein levels?
3. Have you checked for creatinine level? Because kidney problems can also cause edema.
You are right about sour food and related edema. So lemon can be the possible cause.
But please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your father.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
yes,alcohol can cause edema.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, alcohol can cause edema. Alcohol actually causes liver damage. This causes low hemoglobin and low protein. These are the reasons for edema.
So better to get done hemoglobin estimation and protein levels. Also get done creatinine level to rule out renal pathology.
I am bit confused. He is not taking alcohol since 5 weeks. But what about past? Was he taking alcohol regularly in past?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.

yes he was taking alcohol regularly in past. and earlier he was not taking proper diet also. its been more than 10 years since he is drinking.
so my doubt is , why did edema didnt occurred all these when he was taking alcohol without very poor diet.

and why it is happening now when he is alcohol free and eating very well if protein or lever anything was the reason.

Brief Answer:
I am extremly sorry for the mistake.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
I am extremely very sorry for the mistake.
Liver has great regeneration power.
But with age, this regeneration power is decreased.
With alcohol this power further reduces.
So alcoholic in young age did not show liver damage.
But when they are aged, liver shows damage.
And fatty liver is the first stage of liver damage.
So better to get done liver function test and creatinine levels.
Please reply me whether he had these tests or not.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your father.
Thanks.
