Does Duration Of Sleep Differs In Infants?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter turned 4 months yesterday. She isn't a good sleeper. She sleeps for about 7 hours in the night that too wakes for about 3 to 4 times.
And in the day time she sleeps for 2 to 3 hours on the whole. Am so worried as babies at this age need 15 hours of sleep. How can I help her
And one more query, for the first time today we gave her around 1 to 2 ml of pomegranate juice, is this fine? Am exclusively breastfeeding her.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Sleeping habits and the duration of sleep varies a lot in infancy. If your child is growing and developing well for her age then there in no need to worry at all. The duration of sleep is perfectly fine.
Ensure exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and start any complementary feeds only after 6 months. So, avoid any juices at present.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
