Question : hello doctor..My fiancee (Female, 21 years) has been using 'unwanted 72' as an emergency birth control measure from last 6 months. She has taken 2 pills every month at a gap of 3-4 days.Last month she took 2 pills on consecutive days. She has faced a little disturbed cycle and mild head ache till now. Can this kind of use of 'Unwanted 72' or 'i-pill' cause problem or complications in future pregnancy of my fiancee? Is it safe for her health? We are worried because we recently read in an article that these morning after pill can cause permanent damage for future pregnancy and also can cause several long term health issues. Should we avoid using it ? if not then how much quantity is safe for taking say per month? Is it safe to take this pill once in a month?Do we need to go to medical center for checking?

Brief Answer:
not for daily use..,use condoms for protection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to Health Care Magic Forum. I have gone through your query and understand your concerns completely . Ipill should not be used frequently, although the damage is not permenant but yes they can cause disturbed periods as these are very heavy doses of hormones . And very frequent use can cause problems. As it affects uterine lining and not the ovaries so fertility problem is not associated. You should take precaution such as condom as it is very effective in preventing pregnancy and will also reduce the use of ipill. Ipill is an emergency contraceptive so she can take it but should not be taken more than once a month. Her periods will normalize over 2-3 months . But once again I will advise you to use condoms as contraception method. Regards Dr Manisha Jain. OBGY Specialist

thank you for answering. Can these pills affect her health? Last time She felt her right hand and left leg was shaking for a day after taking the pill. Could there be any adverse effect on her health in long term if we continue using the pill once a month? When should we visit a doctor?

Brief Answer:
Limit the use of emergency pill

Detailed Answer:
No dear this pill should not be used more than once a year or even lesser as it is made only for emergency situation like rupture or slippage of condom.
So in case you plan to be sexually active more often then start using condoms or oral contraceptives (a pill to be taken daily).
It can cause severe derangement of her health in the form of very irregular periods, weight gain, poor ovulation and even depression.
