Does Frequently Changing Nuva Ring Have Any Adverse Effect On Health?

Posted on Wed, 30 Mar 2016
Question: I've been on the nuva ring for a little over a year now. However I go on and off of it frequently because of insurance issues. One month on two months off two months on one moth off etc is this damaging? Is there a birth control that has less estrogen? I don't have full time insurance till March...and This time around it keeps forcing it down every few hours. Rejecting it? I'm 30 and don't want children have ra and Sjogrens. Better option?

Brief Answer:
You can use only progestin pills.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
If you are not using any contraceptive method consistently as advised it will not give you 100% contraception.
You can use protesting only pills for contraception because they have only progesterone and no side effects of estrogen.
Hope found usefu, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.

Brief Answer:
Yes,it may affect your body.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
Yes,if you change nuvaring so frequently and use it on and off it may affect your body.
As it contains estrogen and progesterone in it,it may affect your body in 3 ways-
1)It may cause menstrual irregularities, sometimes heavy bleeding and sometimes light bleeding.
It may resolve in 2-3 months.
2)It may cause amenorrhoea( complete absence of menses).
3) It may affect fertility,Fertility return in 13-28 days after stopping nuvaring.
Hope found useful.
Good luck.
