Question: Does having a catheter and sitting for long periods of time, increase possibility of blood in the urine? Urine is very clear when lying in bed and in the morning but gets darker during day and evening.

Hi and welcome to XXXXXXX Thanks for the query.
Urine is more clear when it is more diluted and dilution depends on several factors such as water intake, other fluids and food intake, urination frequency, kidney function and some other. So it is not strange that urine isnt same colored during the day.
If you drink plenty of fluids in the evening before sleep,it may cause clear urine in the morning.
Sitting can cause darker urine since it may lead to changes in bladder contractility, but it shouldnt cause blood in urine. Blood in urine is manifested usually as pink, red or brownish-red. Dark urine can also indicate liver issue or urinary infection. So if this persists, you should do basic urine analysis just to rule out these possible causes, but if there is no any other symptoms, this shouldnt worry you.
Wish you good health.Regards

The Foley catheter has been in for 2 1/2 weeks. Blood was not in urine until the last few days; it is the brownish-red you described. There are no signs of fever, chills, sweating, etc. Blood work done a week ago shows no signs of liver or kidney problems. To combat infection, I am giving him parsley tea and cranberry tablets; he does not respond well to antibiotics. Could constipation be contributing to blood in urine i.e. causing additional pressure?

I have to say that looking at this urine bag is troubling.

Constipation may cause some urination difficulties and inability to empty bladder, but it shouldnt cause blood in urine. Blood may occur if there was manipulation with catheter which caused urirnary tract injury.also, infection is common cause.
I suggest to do basic urine analysis, you can send it from the bag and replace the catheter.beside those teas, aloe vera leaves, plantain and cumin seeds may help. But if there is bacterial infection then antibiotics will be necessary.
WIsh you good health.
