Does High Vaginal Swab Test Detect STDs?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I was taken in to accident and emergency and had a HVS done which the results were all negative. If I had any STI's or std's these would have indicated on this wouldn't it?
I ended up having emergency surgery for a ruptured ovarian absess. Treated with an array of different IV Antibiotics and oral antibiotics too but it's left me quite traumatised

I also had culture and sensitivity done too im not sure what that is.
Ive had so many bloods done and a crazy amount of Iv anti biotics and oral anti biotics and im on them now for another 3 weeks.

Brief Answer:
High antibiotics are important post procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I can understand your concern.
A ruptured ovarian abscess is an emergency, and to operate open it, HVS is required to start antibiotic of right spectrum, whether you have or do not have STI or STD.
During post operative period as well, to avoid infection plenty of antibiotics should be given to avoid post operative infections, even if the culture is normal.
These are routine in every hospital.
Hope I have answered your query.
If any thing else you are welcome.
Good luck.
