Does Hypnosis Help To Overcome Claustrophobia?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I have a specific phobia. It is a claustrophobic issue. It is about being rolled up in a gymnasium floor mat. When I was in high school, about the 9th or 10th grade, some of us students in a gym class voluntarily allowed ourselves to be rolled up in a gymnasium floor mat. It was a terrifying experience to say the least. Some time ago I heard on a news broadcast about a missing child who was found dead in a rolled up gymnasium floor mat at his school. I now frequently think about my experience with that and it terrifies me.
My question is would hypnosis help me get over it?

Brief Answer:
I think it may not help

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing through HCM.

I have read your query and understood your concerns.

Initial goal for hypnosis in phobias is to identify the initial event from which the phobia or irrational fear developed. In your case, you already know about the initial event which has caused this irrational fear or phobia so there is nothing more to gain from the hypnosis. You need to learn how to avoid or overcome this fear.

I feel that instead of going for hypnosis you should go for behavioral modification therapies like systematic desensitization and flooding. I suggest you to visit a psychotherapist and discuss your issues with him. Ask him to suggest best therapies for your issues.

My advice is based on my professional knowledge. If you still want to go for hypnosis then it is your choice.

Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have further query then close the discussion and rate the answer.
Wish you good health.
