Does Intake Of Allopurinol Help In Treating Gout?

Question : I have been diagnosed with Gout. My complaint was muscle and limb ache in the morning and generally hurting all over. The first medication I received cause diarrhea for 3 days and then everything returned to normal. I began to feel better and the morning issues eased a great deal. The blood test following the medication indicated a rise in Creatnine as I have kidney disease and type 2 diabetes. Therefore the Dr. moved me to Allbupropinol which I need to pu today at the pharmacy. I have taken nothing since last Friday and I returned this AM to feeling as if run over by a truck. Will the Allbupropinol help avoid my gout issues and preservre my kidneys. ie be less harsh on my kidneys. I am concerned about side affects that would cause further kidney damage. Am I being overly cautious.

Well allopurinol as such is a safe drug if u don't experience any skin side effects. it can be given in patients with kidney disease, but the dose has to be modified. but there are a couple of things I need to address here

1. if you just had an acute attack I would suggest to wait on it before starting the medicine as it can flare the attack. give it 2 weeks time before starting it

2. whenever you start do watch for any skin reactions

3. The other better option for you is Febuxostat. it is safer in kidney patients, and does not need dose modification. I am not sure if it is available in your country. you can check on it and if available I would suggest go for it
