Question: can Amlodipine Besylate cause hair loss what is an alternative medicene. I have taken norvac for a number of years and all of a sudden my hair started to fall out. Im also on tenormin 100 mg losartanhct 100 mg( aldactone 25mg (for hair loss)

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Now please note that reportedly, exclusive Amlodipine(Norvasc) therapy is not responsible for hair loss, but when it's combined with another anti-hypertensive like Losartan, then there's a rare incidence of hair loss (only 0.7% till date)..

Now this being said, the chances are still quite rare, and all other possibilities (eg. Telogen effluvium, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies etc.) need to be ruled out by a Dermatologist clinically prior to this (me too haven't come across this in my clinical practice yet)..

Yes, if it's found as the culprit, then Cilnidipine can be initiated in the therapy as an alternative, please discuss with your doctor regarding this..

Aldactone can be continued in the meantime..

You may discuss with your doctor regarding taking Biotin supplementation also, it's proven some benefits in this regard..
