Does Intake Of Cipralex Help In Treating Major Depressive Disorder?

Posted on Mon, 13 Jun 2016
Question: Hi am 55 years suffering from major depressive disorder since past 35 years and fibromylagia recently.
I hv been taking cipralex 10 mg one tablet per day for 8/10 years alongwith BP medicine telmisartan 40.
I have made peace with my condition and am now used to leading a laid back life.
However Due to severe procrastination, I am unable to take actions/decisions on ordinary as well as important life issues. Two doctors have recommended the following:
A Physician suggested to continue cipralex 10 mg with additional duzela 30.
However Psychiatrist suggested to continue cipralex 10mg & start off with additional 7.5 mg remeron.
Please note by nature I am very intolerant to side effects caused by medicines.
Kindly advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query with keen interest and understand your concern.
First of all I like to inform you that there is merit in both options and any option can be considered.

I am not supposed to take sides but considering the hypertension I will prefer to add remeron rather than Duzela. I Understand that both is useful for the condition but duzela 30 mg can have more deleterious side effect on blood pressure in compare to remeron 7.5 mg.

I must add here that inability to take decisions on important matters can be handled with cognitive behavior therapy and not with medicines. Prolonged nature of illness definitely kills the required motivation and I feel using motivational enhancement with change of thought process could give better results than any medication provided an expert is available for the required psychotherapy in your city.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I want to inform you that my BP has been under control with Telmisartan 40 - between 130/90 and/or 140/90 over the years.

Further as given to understand Duzella 30 also helps with managing Pains related to Fibromyglia.

In light of the above, would your recomendation still be same or different?

Thanks & Regards- XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
If you ask for pain than it goes for Duzela

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

If your priority is pain and fibromyalgia for treatment than my vote goes to Duzela only but with strict blood pressure monitoring.

I must add that Duzela is preferred in pain symptoms due to its better efficacy in compare to all other antidepressants including remeron.

I understand blood pressure is under control but Duzela itself raises the blood pressure and it should be monitored during the Duzela use period.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
