Question : To take antibiotics for fistula in - ano, can I use doxycyline

Hello,
Doxycycline can be taken for Fistula in ano but there are better antibiotics for the same. I usually prescribe Augmentin and Tinidazole combination for 7 to 10 days or Ciprofloxacin at a higher dose of 750mg twice a day for 10 days.
But these are only for controlling acute phases of infection. Final and ultimate treatment would be surgical excision of the fistulous track.

A doctor in my place prescribed me doxycyline for 15 days because some days ago blood was found in my semen. And as my fistula in - ano is still there un healing and so I want to know whether it can be helpful as well for this too without taking 2/3 types of medicines. Thanks

The Doxycycline prescribed is probably for the Semen blood and infection and not so much for the Fistula. If there is pus discharge from the fistula then active antibiotic therapy would be required. However, it will have some effect on fistula infection as well.
I suggest you complete your antibiotic course prescribed for the semen problem and then get your semen and fistula re-evaluated. We can then decide whether you need more therapy for either or both the situations.
Therefore start this treatment and upon completion get your fistula examined.
