Brief Answer:
Specific information

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
Yes. Metformin is the commonest medicine used in type 2 diabetes.
Of course it's not the only medicine and if the sugars are too high , even insulin may be started.
Metformin is a safe medicine especially because it does not cause low sugars.
However, it does have side effects like all medicines.
The chief and commonest however is abdominal discomfort which is often severe enough that the medicine needs to be changed.
So make sure you don't have pain. If it's there, either the formulation needs to change or the medicine itself.
In the long term, all medicines affect kidneys. Unfortunately, uncontrolled diabetes does the same. So it's better to take the medicine.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
