Brief Answer:
Not very high in compare to general population

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns about development of diabetes due to use of seroquel.

If you ask this theoretically, answer is yes. As everyone of us is predisposed to development of diabetes not matter what you take.

ON the practical ground I can say that chance is not that much high as claimed by few scientific articles. It is well proven that if you take care of your body the chances of development of diabetes is minimized irrespective of antipsychotic use. The key to prevention of diabetes lies with healthy life style which includes regular exercise and healthy eating. It is important to keep your weight under check as excessive weight gain is casually associated with development of diabetes but not seroquel.

In regard to dose of seroquel (100mg) the risk is very minimal at this dose. In fact this is not antipsychotic dose and most of the people do not develop metabolic complications(e.g weigh gain, hypertension, Diabetes) at lower dosages.

To conclude it can be said that yes you are at risk like any other person but there is extra need to keep your body fit to prevent any metabolic complications.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Answered by Dr. Dr. Ashok Kumar Choudhary (9 hours later)
Brief Answer:
It is very rare

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Cataract is not a known side effect of seroquel use. There are only few case reports and no causality established till date. In other words it can be said that cataract do not result from seroquel use and even if occurs the chances is just few in Millions.

I hope this clarifies.
Thanks and regards

Due to divorce stress I developed severe insomnia and anxiety. Ive never suffered from either before until the stress came. Its as if my nervous system is always on high alert. I do not suffer from depression or mental illness. I told my dr I did not want any benzodizapam bc of their addictive nature. I wanted nothing addictive or habit forming. He rx 50-100mg of seroquel nightly. It works great. My dr said it is safe to take.

Does insomnia due to stress ever resolve itself? Is it common to suffer insomnia when going thru trauma? Is seroquel addictive

Does insomnia due to stress ever resolve itself?
It generally resolves in few months provided stressful situation either changes or disappears. Like all other stresses and its related symptoms insomnia diminishes in intensity over time and disappears.

It is common to suffer with insomnia while going through stress. It is estimated that about two 70-80 % people with stress present with only insomnia.

No seroquel is not addictive. Once the need is over it can be safely discontinued gradually.

I hope this answers you.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Yes it is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

Seroquel is one of the safest antispycotics and have less common metabolic side effects in compare to other second generation antipsychotics.

Although it is not first choice for stress and anxiety but it works well (ssri and Bzds are first choice) but it works well in majority of patients with similar conditions without little side effects.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks andregards
