Does Klacid Usage Have Any Effects On Fertility?
Question: Hi there, i was just wondering whether Klacid 500mg would interfere with Fertility. I have taken only one 500mg tablet last night. This is my fertile week and i was hoping to concieve. I wated to know how long does it last in my system and will it cause any problems. I am willing to stop it. It is for a chest infection.

Klacid has no known effects on fertility.i.e. it has never been claimed that it reduces chances of pregnancy. However, Clarithromycin the active ingredient in Klacid, should be avoided in pregnancy as far as possible & should only be used if there are benefits more then the potential harms ( CATAGORY C). This medicine may cause harm to the fetus if taken in very high doses as judged by animal studies.
In very early pregnancy less than 8 weeks if a harmful drug is taken it usually cause miscarriage or if the pregnancy continues, it is usually unaffected.
So, as you have not yet conceived, you probably can take it if absolutely necessary. If you want to avoid it discuss with your doctor about safer alternatives like Cephalosporins.
