Question : hi
i want to marry a girl, but problem is that we are from same paternal line. We are the 6th generation from our ancestor. like (Boy): GGGGF- GGGF1 -> GGF -> GF - > F - > Me & (Girl): GGGGF- GGGF2 -> GGF -> GF - > F - > She. So here GGGGF(Great Great Great GrandFather) was the common ancestor. So is there is issue in for our next generation if we marry each other? Please help me out from this question.

Brief Answer:
The risk of any issue is very less

Detailed Answer:
Hello welcome to HCM

You and that girl are related to each other by 6 generations back and as per my opinion there would be no significant risk in terms of any genetic disorder. If your family or hers family didn't have any serious genetic condition then no need to worry. The pedigree lines are meeting far in family tree and practically the risk is almost equal to general population.

If we go by studies and assume no pedigree collapse in a family then the risk of transmission of a gene reduces to 1/32 times as compared to risk in marriage in siblings if we assume a total 50% crossover. These are technical terms and I have used these to assure you. With successive generations pedigree collapse occurs and total genes don't get transferred in generations so the risk is very very less. As per my opinion there would be no significant issue in next generation if you marry with her.

Thankyou

If we want to re-confirm by blood test then which test we have to do? If you suggest then we will test those and upload the report here.

Brief Answer:
No need to go for specific tests as per my opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for follow up question

If either of your families has history of any genetic illness or disorder then you should get yourself and your partner checked for that particular disorder. There are numerous genetic disorders and no specific genetic tests are recommended in preconception period. During prenatal periods tests for Down's, Alfa feto proteins etc are advised.

Tests for Cystic Fibrosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Haemophilia, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anaemia, Tay Sach's Disease are screened in parents of suspected child. But they are not really indicated if your or her family have no history of genetic disorder. So be assured no need to worry.

Thank you
Note: For detailed guidance on genetic screening consult a genetics specialist
